We are delighted to welcome Nadia Di Leo (University of Foggia, Italy), who will be visiting us as a Visiting PhD Candidate at the Department of Digital Humanities, King’s College London, throughout semester 1.
Nadia Di Leo is a PhD student in Education, Development and Learning Sciences at the University of Foggia (Italy), where she also works as a Teaching Assistant in Special Education and Instructional Design. She is a steering committee member of DiGRA (Digital Games Research Association) Italia and a Minecraft Education Ambassador. Her research focuses on game studies, learning sciences and digital humanities, with particular attention to game accessibility, the representation of gender in video games, community dynamics in online spaces, and the educational potential of game-based environments.
While she is with us, Nadia will give a talk as part of the DH Game Lab events series:
Who gets to play? Physical and conceptual accessibility in video games
Thursday 12th November 2026, 5-6:30pm, MAC 106 (Embankment Room)
Drawing on her PhD research, Nadia looks at two kinds of accessibility in games: whether players can physically perceive and operate them (for instance through subtitles or remappable controls), and whether they feel represented by games and welcome in the culture around them. The talk covers an audit of recent games against the Game Accessibility Guidelines, an evaluation of Minecraft Education through classroom use and an analysis of app store reviews, and interviews with gamers about gender and inclusion. It concludes with a reflection on how different kinds of data from the gaming world can inform accessibility guidelines for games in educational settings.
If you’re interested in games, accessibility, or education, we hope to see you on the 12th. 🎮✨ Book your place here.
